Ever want to learn Capoeira? Now is your chance!
Capoeira is an African-Brazilian art form that combines dance, martial arts, music and acrobatics. Africans in Brazil created Capoeira over 400 years ago as a way to defend themselves and maintain their culture in the face of the harsh and oppressive conditions of slavery.
Capoeira is a great way to get in shape, meet new people, experience culture and build community! You do not need any prior knowledge or experience to start - classes are geared towards beginners. Capoeira classes begin with a series of Capoeira influenced exercises and stretches to strengthen and warm-up the body. Individual Capoeira moves and sequences are then practiced in pairs or separately across the floor. The class ends with a roda - the circle in which Capoeira and music is played.
Brought to you by Omulu Brooklyn, classes begin tonight and will continue each Wednesday evening from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Just $15 a class! Be sure to wear comfortable sweats or leggings and a t-shirt or tank top to class. Classes are normally barefoot, however, please wear sneakers to outdoor classes. See you there!
