Every Friday in September, Loosecubes will be ushering in autumn by setting up shop in a refurbished shipping container at Dekalb Market! We’ll have Wi-Fi, electricity, A/C, indoor/outdoor seating and even an occasional happy hour special!

As the weather turns a bit cooler, it feels like the perfect time to chow down on a buttery, extravagantly melty grilled cheese sandwich. Thankfully, Mrs. Dorsey’s Kitchen slings one of the best in town. Owner Ronnie Johnson Jr. describes the genesis of this grilled cheese destination:

Mrs. Dorsey’s Kitchen… is inspired by the many visits to my grandmother’s house as a young boy.  I remember walking into a house filled with delicious aromas of dishes she had prepared fresh from her garden or an old recipe she used from her mother.

Cheddar, mozzarella, pepper jack, gouda – choose your cheese and if you’d like, ramp it up with fixings like bacon, tomato (of course), basil, turkey, and even apricot reserve! Here’s what to expect:

Mrs. Dorsey’s Kitchen specializes in, but is not limited to, homemade grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

We will have the option of the classic grilled cheese, but will include our own blend of garlic seasoning.   While maintaining the integrity of the grilled cheese sandwich, we will be stimulating one’s taste buds and fond memories of home…if only for a moment

As a first timer, I went for the simple, unadorned CHZ PLZ, with pepper jack. Besides the quality of the cheese, what really sets this sandwich apart is the spectacular, buttery crunch of the grilled bread. Time to go get your cheese on!

As we prepare to close down the market in our current location on Flatbush Ave we took advantage of vacant containers, transforming them for exhibition spaces for local artists in Brooklyn and beyond. To think a container is the perfect white box for emerging talent to show their work is an understatement. Please join us September 26th from 6 – 9pm for a reception celebrating the works on canvas, paper, and installations by a roster of artists including Jeffrey Kurland, Alex Mouganis, Sylvia Feliz, Ben Angotti, Danielle Mastrion, Chain, Warwick McLeod and Tom Bevan.

Closet Dash!

For the second time they brought their online swapping model to life at Dekalb.  Swappers brought items they no longer needed and after being checked in were free to shop and select new items to walk away with.

The variety of items (as well as the refreshments) brought in quite a crowd. Closet Dash founder Jennifer Lee was on site to make sure crowds were able to get shopping as quickly as possible and only had the best items to choose from.

Swappers took home everything from clothing, housewares, books/DVDs/CDs, to kids clothes and electronics and beauty items.  Goodwill NY/NJ was also on-site to collect donations from swappers.

Closet Dash’s day at the market may be done but you can still visit them set up an account and get to swapping online
